I have noticed for the past month or so that a very special Birdie, Carol Rock, at our local Radio Station (KHTS Hometown Station) has been calling for help at our local food bank. The Santa Clarita Food Pantry is running at an all time low. So I thought it would be fun to see how much food I could purchase with a budget of just $60 (that is half of what I would spend on my family in one week).

I think you’ll be surprised at just how much I got. I picked up:

5 Cans of Ravioli
5 Cans of Tuna5 Loaves of Bread
5 Boxes of Mac and Cheese
10 Double Packs of baby food
5 Boxes Oatmeal
5 Bags of Gold Fish Cracker
5 Bags of English Muffins
4 Boxes of frozen Breakfast Sausage
(they only had 4 on the shelf or I would have gotten 5)
5 Large Bags of Celery
15 lbs of Potatoes

Total Came to $66.08.

If I didn’t buy the potatoes, I would have come in at $59.00. The potatoes where on a “In-Store Special” so I went over just a bit, because 15 pounds of potatoes will go a long way!

I didn’t have to use coupons – just my Ralph’s Club Card and everything was on sale!

I challenge you to see what you can do with just $25, and help put food on the table for many little peeps in our valley!

The Santa Clarita Food Pantry is open Monday – Thursday 9am to noon.

Don’t drop on Friday, because nobody will be there. This birdie found that out the hard way! You can also find an off hours drop off box located in the alley behind the building (but I also found that out a little too late)!

I'M HEADING TO FINE ART AND SOUL!

Art Galleries are not the place for alilbirdie like me, they are far too stuffy and snooty; at least that’s what I thought, until I flew by Fine Art and Soul.

Fine Art and Soul is located at 28271 Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia. Fine Art and Soul has been doing business in Santa Clarita for over 5 years and it’s owned by Kathy and Chris Maloney, a brother and sister team. They have built the Gallery from the ground up. It is their smiling faces and warm personality that truly give this Gallery it’s SOUL!

On my first visit, warm laughter filled the gallery and before I knew it I was included in the conversation, dispelling any traces or lingering thought that an Art Gallery is too High Brow for alilbirdie like me! Now it’s one my favorite places to shop. After just a few moments you will feel at ease and you will be encouraged to stay as long as you like. I really enjoyed exploring the Gallery.

Fine Art and Soul has hosted countless numbers of art shows over the years. These events are free and open to the public. These gallery shows give you time to get to know an artist or enjoy the Gallery’s collection with Friends.

The most enjoyable part of Fine Art and Soul for alilbirdie right now is the amazing collection of Wood Work and Jewelry Artists that Chris and Kathy have incorporated into the Gallery. They are found along side wonderful well known painters such as Fabian Perez and Tim Rogerson. These are collections to coo over, making it easier and easier to fly by and splurge on myself! Fine Art and Soul also carries an extensive line of Joseph Quillan bronze sculptures and treasure boxes in the gallery and on line at www.fineartandsoul.com

So for bringing Art to the People and for making alilbirdie always feel welcome , I will “singing the praise’s” of Fine Art and Soul, and encourage you to stop by and enjoy the gallery for yourself!

WHAT IS A KIDS CONSIGNMENT SALE?

Once in the Spring and once in the Fall, we hold a one-weekend only consignment sale where you can find thousands of new and gently-used kids items at a fraction of retail. The products at the sale come from hundreds of families who sign up to consign and actually earn money for the products that sell. Anyone is welcome to become a consignor and anyone is welcome to shop at the sale.

This sale is NOT a garage sale. All items are inspected upon check in to be sure that they are clean, without stains and in working order. All items are organized into a store-format so that it is easy to shop and find the sizes and types of products you are looking for.

WHO ARE WE?

Kristin Nelson, a stay-at-home mom of 2 boys, has been running the LA Kids Consignment sale for 6 years. Stacy Kupfer, a stay-at-home mom of 2 girls, is a Santa Clarita Valley resident and has been participating in the LA Kids Consignment sale since it was in Kristin’s driveway!
